Identifying If Your Dog is Overweight or Obese

dogIt’s easy to tell when you add a few pounds. That favorite pair of jeans gets just a bit too snug. Unfortunately, it’s not so obvious with your favorite friend. Most owners don’t even know when their dogs are overweight. In a 2006 study of dog owners by Pfizer Animal Health, only 17% of dog owners said they thought their dogs were obese. By contrast, veterinarians said that 47% of their patients were overweight or obese.

BARC
Pfizer Animal Health has created a tool to help dog owners determine if their dogs are overweight or obese – or heading in that direction. Spend a few minutes taking the BARC (Body Assessment Rating for Canines) survey to help determine if it’s time to speak to your veterinarian about tackling weight loss measures.

The BARC survey is an aid to help identify obesity in dogs. It is not a substitute for a consultation with a veterinarian.
